84 Ford F-350 - $3500 (Havre Mt)

Iv’e had this vehicle for two years and have driven it less than 10 times. I bought it so I could get firewood and do projects on it for school.

New:
-A/C system re-charged
- 80% tread on tires
- Alernator
- Starter
- 2 - 950 CCA batteries

Bad:
- Needs new Injectors
- Has some rust and dents
- Glow Plugs need to be changed

I’m looking for $3500 O.B.O.

cant weigh in on that one. Looking purely at utility Id sa y that LR is worth about 5k.

Needs glow plugs on an early IDI means there is a significant probability of breaking off the swollen and bent tips of the glow plugs into the cylinder when removing them, which means glow plugs have a way of turning into a cylinder heads off job. Needs injectors is easy enough, but more likely is that the injection pump is actually trashed from over a decade of running on ULSD diesel that the fuel system wasn’t designed for. All that work and it is still an IDI when you’re done, which means it is a deathly slow truck that still gets bad fuel mileage . A n old dually from any of the big 3 of this era with a gas motor would be vastly superior truck in every way.

True, but at that point it would be lot cheaper to just buy a truck that came with a Cummins.

Montana is a wonderful place. My work has taken me to Helena twice in the last year and it is a magical place full of 30+ year old trucks still working every day and living relatively rust free life .

A coworker up there just bought a second gen land rover that doesn’t have a spec of rust on it and is awesome!

Don’t forget the horrible wiring for the glow plug system! My friends old IDI got nice and toasty because of it.

Indeed.  While I repsect their simplicity, after I owning one I just can't see them as a superior choice for much of anything today.
